VisionCare Devices, LLC.: An Eye for Innovation for Better Care

“We are skilled, experienced, collaborative, fast, and agile. These traits have propelled us to disrupt the anterior and posterior Vitreo-Retinal eye surgery space with a suite of the world’s fastest vitrectors,” says Rick Morgan, COO and lead product designer at VisionCare Devices, LLC. Over the years, Anderson, CA-based Ophthalmic medical device manufacturing company VisionCare Devices has been working closely with doctors to understand their evolving needs and develop products accordingly using the latest, automation-based technologies available in the market. The company’s offerings are not only high quality but also cost-efficient, a win-win proposition for all the stakeholders involved in a project. VisionCare Devices also provides contract manufacturing services through which it takes responsibility for the end-to-end processes.

VisionCare Devices has its roots in VisionCare Devices INC (VCD), an offshoot of CooperVision medical manufacturing, that had many industry firsts to its name ever since it was established in 1990. Led by the young Rick Morgan, the design engineer for product development at VCD, in 2010, VCD was the first company to bring an LED light source as well as portable and rechargeable Li-Ion battery to the Ophthalmic market.

VisionCare Devices has acquired the knowledge, experience, and expertise from its predecessor and has reinforced its capabilities with the best-in-class technologies to build innovative solutions. The company has built a suite of the fastest pneumatic/spring style vitrectors in the world. “Not only do our vitrectors run at 11,000 cuts per minute in a standard cut configuration (22,000 CPM in a dual cut style) but they also will outlast and outflow our competitors’ products currently on the market,” says Morgan.
The company’s vitrectors are designed to work with most of the major systems in the market.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused serious supply chain and logistics issues, VisionCare Devices’ contract manufacturing business has grown exponentially as large OEMs and midmarket companies are partnering with the company to develop their next product. In this situation, the company’s purpose-built medical device manufacturing plant spanning 13,200 sq. ft. is running on all cylinders for developing new products. The facility comprises an ultra-clean production environment and a Class 8 cleanroom for sterile products or clean room assemblies. The FDA registered and ISO 13485:2016 certified VisionCare Devices provides comprehensive services, including concept development, planning, design, development, testing, implementation, and post-delivery customer service. “We also have the benefit of being close to the largest highway on the West coast, which gives us access to the largest distribution centres, including FedEx and UPS. We can supply products quickly both in the US and globally,” informs Morgan.

Impressed with VisionCare Devices’ vitrectors, several organizations from across the globe are approaching the company with their innovative ideas to develop new solutions. In one instance, the company faced the challenge of building surgical systems that could withstand the harsh conditions in places such as India, Africa, and Pakistan. Stepping up to the task, it developed a surgical system in a ruggedized form factor that made it easy for users to maintain, clean, and transport. “If you have a need for any VCD products or have an idea for new products or need a contract manufacturer, you can reach out to one of our customer representatives or simply call or email for more information or a quote on your project,” says Morgan.

With a mechanical engineering background along with more than 75 medical product designs under his belt and more than a decade of proven experience in the design and production of Ophthalmic surgical instruments, Morgan continues to lead VisionCare Devices to enable new product offerings in the domain. “Investing in advanced automated and manufacturing equipment and robotic assembly, we aim to bring online automated machines that will produce ultra-quality handpieces and will be able to run 24/7 to meet the demands,” concludes Morgan.
